We are looking for a friendly, motivated and creative individual to join our small team based in Morningside, Edinburgh.

 

Retail Assistant - Sundays, with scope for additional cover

The Retail Assistant will work independently in our shop at 77 Morningside Road, Edinburgh on Sundays, 11 - 5pm.

You will be working alone on these days, in charge of opening up, selling throughout the day, and locking up. Additional tasks including product merchandising; stock taking; pricing; picking and packing online orders; and light cleaning will also be required throughout the day and will be communicated by the manager.

Ideally, you will be a confident self-starter; happy to engage and chat with a wide range of people who visit the shop, guiding them towards a purchase; but also content to work alone on tasks at quieter times. We are a team of two, and it's important to us that our customers receive a kind and welcoming experience in our shop and that our standards are maintained.

While no direct retail experience is required, it would be desirable - customer service experience is of a greater importance to us. You should also be excited by our collection of home and lifestyle goods, and feel good about selling them! 

This role is to cover Sundays from 11-5pm; please only apply if you are able to commit to this time. This is a zero hour contract giving scope to take on additional hours to cover holidays, or during busy periods (Christmas, for example).

 

Main Requirements:

• Customer service - welcoming, engaging, and serving customers in store
• Opening and closing the shop
• Maintaining appearance of the shop; tidying/dusting/restocking shelves/labelling prices etc
• Ringing up sales - experience of Shopify welcome but not required. You must be confident to search product names/codes in an ipad. 

Additional tasks:

• Picking and packing online orders
• Assisting with ad-hoc tasks which may occur (agreed in advance)
• Helping to prepare for events/workshops as required
• Light cleaning - vacuuming, breaking down recycling etc

Hours:  Zero hour contract - initially 6 hours per week: Sunday 11.00am – 5.00pm (potential for additional hours throughout the year covering holidays, and at busy periods - we're happy to be flexible)

Pay rate:  £11.50 per hour
